What is the purpose of this study and who is leading it?
We are asking you to participate in a research study aimed at examining the mental well-being and self-care habits of emerging adults (individuals aged 18-25 years). This study is being conducted by Alexia Yap Ocampo, (alexia.yap.ocampo@ulb.be) at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, under the supervision of Professor Ann Desmet of the Faculty of Psychology, Educational Sciences, and Speech and Language therapy, and is part of the work associated with a master’s thesis in psychology.
This research involves completing a survey about your current mental well-being. The entire survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete and includes general demographic questions, questions about your self-care habits, your current mental well-being as well as viewing an image for a duration of 1 minute.
At this stage, we cannot fully disclose the objectives of our research so as not to influence your responses. Detailed explanations of the study’s objectives will be provided immediately after your participation, in the form of a debriefing text presented at the end of the survey.
Participation and Withdrawal
Your participation in this research is voluntary. You may choose not to participate, and if you decide to participate, you may stop answering questions or performing the task at any time and close your browser window without any adverse consequences. The researcher must provide you with all necessary explanations regarding this study. You have the right to receive answers to your questions about the procedures before or after the study by sending an email to alexia.yap.ocampo@ulb.be.
Data Confidentiality and Security
All data collected in this study is anonymous and will be stored confidentially. Neither the researchers nor any third parties will have access to your identity, which cannot be linked to your responses to the questionnaire. Data resulting from your participation in this research may be shared as part of another study related to this research and may be compiled into databases accessible to the scientific community. The data we share is not identifiable, so no one will know which data is yours or even that you participated.

Who reviewed this study?
This study was reviewed by an independent Ethics Committee, namely the Ethics Advisory Committee of the Faculty of Psychology, Educational Sciences, and Speech-Language Pathology. Under no circumstances should you interpret the Ethics Advisory Committee’s approval as an incentive to participate in this study.
